Each year the AAG President, in consultation with the Executive Director, identifies themes for the annual meeting to help focus discussion and provide a fresh and engaging structure to the conference program. Due to the extraordinary circumstances during the pandemic, we have retained the four themes established in 2020 and 2021 with an additional new theme for 2022.

Jobs & Careers Center

The Jobs & Careers Center will feature dozens of sessions on careers and professional development for geographers. It is a central hub for students, job seekers, and other meeting attendees to learn from professional geographers, network with one another, and develop strategies for finding employment in geography-related occupations.

If you are interested in organizing or participating in a session, activity or event related to careers and professional development, please see our Call for Participation. For best consideration, please submit your information by November 4, 2021.

Exhibit Hall

There are many ways to get involved in the upcoming annual meeting beyond presenting research or participating in a session. Become a sponsor, exhibitor or advertiser, work as a conference assistant to offset your registration fee, involve a non-geographer, serve as a career mentor, or pursue one of the many other opportunities to bolster your participation.

The AAG works to create an Annual Meeting that is accessible to all. This includes reasonable accommodations as specified by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). AAG and its conference venues ensure mobility access within all session and conference rooms.

An accessibility request question is available during the registration process and can also be sent to If possible, please make accommodation requests no later than one month prior to the meeting. This provides both the AAG and its contracted facilities lead time for ensuring optimal access, e.g. contracting with sign language interpreters.

Enrichment Fund

AAG is pleased to announce the return of the AAG Enrichment Fund. This year, the fund is enhanced to welcome applications from geographers, non-geographers, and students. The purpose of the fund is to provide financial support to those who would benefit from attending the annual meeting, but would be unable to do so without the financial support. Applications will be considered on a competitive basis on the following criteria:

  • Purpose and/or goal in attending the annual meeting
  • How attending the annual meeting will benefit the individual
  • How the individual will enrich the annual meeting
  • Participation in the annual meeting
  • Outside support/funding being received (i.e., expenses or registration costs that are being paid by a university, company, organization, or other entity)

The priority deadline for applications is November 4, 2021. Applications received after this date will be considered on a rolling basis as funds are available. Read on for more information and email with questions.

AAG Policies

We strive to create a professional and safe environment for all during AAG events. As part of this effort, we require all attendees to read our policies, so that they can agree to the questions during the registration process.
