AAG Journals

The AAG scholarly journals range from long-standing and distinguished titles to new and innovative publications. All are published by Taylor & Francis.

AAG’s publishing partner Taylor & Francis has restarted its print publication, however due to the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on worldwide distribution supply chains for printed journals, some members may not receive their journals in the usual timeframe. This has not affected the digital versions of AAG's journals.

In addition, AAG journal editors have temporarily slowed their submission and review cycles. View the editors' perspectives on each journal landing page linked below.

The Annals of the American Association of Geographers has been published since 1911. It is the AAG’s flagship journal and is ranked 15th out of 84 geography journals worldwide. There are six issues every year, one of which is a themed Special Issue. The journal features major research articles that make an important contribution to geographic knowledge.

The Professional Geographer began life as a publication of the American Society for Professional Geographers. It became a journal of the AAG in 1949 when the two organizations merged. There are four issues per year and the focus is on short articles of academic or applied geography, emphasizing empirical studies and methodologies.

The AAG Review of Books is an online journal launched in 2013 and a new forum for the book reviews formerly published in the Annals of the AAG and The Professional Geographer. There are four issues per year that contain scholarly reviews of significant current books related broadly to geography and public policy and/or international affairs.

GeoHumanities is the newest journal, launched in 2015. There are two issues per year that contain original peer-reviewed articles that span conceptual and methodological debates in geography and the humanities; critical reflections on analog and digital artistic productions; and new scholarly interactions occurring at the intersections of geography and multiple humanities disciplines.

Journals of AAG Specialty Groups

The African Geographical Review is the journal of the AAG’s Africa Specialty Group. It provides a medium for the publication of geographical material relating to Africa. The journal seeks to enhance the standing of African regional geography and to promote a better representation of African scholarship.

Journals of AAG Regional Divisions

The AAG is organized into nine divisions representing different regions of the United States. Five of these divisions publish an academic journal containing peer-reviewed articles and other material. Find out about the Yearbook of the Association of Pacific Coast Geographers, the Middle States Geographer, The Northeastern Geographer, The Southwestern Geographer, and the Southeastern Geographer.

Partnered Journals

Earth Interactions (EI) is an online journal dealing with the interactions between the lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere in the context of global issues or global change. It exploits the capabilities of digital technology and provides its authors the opportunity to use animations and other visualization techniques that traditional publications cannot accommodate. Earth Interactions is a joint publication of the American Meteorological Society, American Geophysical Union, and American Association of Geographers.
